FAQ's

Questions we get asked frequently.

What to expect

Our aim is to get you standing up and surfing in (broken) whitewater waves (waist depth), within your first lesson and to provide you with sufficient understanding of basic techniques and surf/beach safety, at a novice level. However, the rate of progression is highy dependent on the individual's own physical fitness, flexibility, age and transferrable skills. On average, we would recommend 2-3 lessons as a good foundation for beginning to learn to surf at your own leisure.

To book, or not to book!?

We can usually cater for lessons on a 'walk-in' basis; however, advanced booking (min. 24hrs) is highly recommended during the peak summer (Jul/Aug) period, particularly if you are booking as a family/group/private for a specific day/time, as we do tend to get busy.

You're going to get wet anyway!

Yes, as long as conditions are considered safe and 'tolerable' for novice surfers and/or the group demographics. If we expect conditions to be unsuitable to run on any given day, we will endeavour to contact you, prior to your lesson, to reschedule for another day/time, wherever possible. We are always happy to offer advice for getting the optimum surfing conditions, within a 3-5 day forecast, if you don't mind being flexible with your days/times for lessons.

Here we are!

(Late May - Early Sept) - We are based directly on Perranporth Beach throughought summer. We are located near to the main beach access from the promenade car park (TR60JN for sat-nav)... Just look for our big red gazebo and flags. (Sept-May) - We are based at Bathsheba Surf shop for the winter months, on the high street (TR60BH)

We keep it local...

All our surf lessons take place on Perranporth Beach, nearest to the town centre & village amenities.

We've got what you need!

Yes, all necessary equipment is provided, free of charge. We do not offer boots/gloves during summer months, as they are not required for warmth. For children under 12yrs, we do recommend wearing some soft-rubber/neoprene rock-pooling shoes/boots (widely available from local shops), for protection against weever fish.

We've got you covered!

You'll only need a towel and 'slim-fitting' swimwear to be worn underneath the wetsuit, and perhaps some means of refreshment for after your lesson(s). There are numerous food/drink and catering establishments available, either on the beach or in Perranporth's town.

Leave it with us!

Yes, we will look after your belongings for you whilst you are in the water. We will issue you with a large storage box to keep your belongings secure and dry.

Sand gets everywhere!

Yes, hot showers are now available in the brand new ablutions on the beach promenade, less than 100m from our base. There is a £1.20 useage charge for showers (10mins), just so you know.

We take cards & cash

The balance of your lesson(s) is payable on arrival, by credit/debit card or cash. We use a secure payment facility (iZettle) to handle card payments, with all major cards accepted, including American Express. Receipts are issued by email (at the time of the transaction).
